Thank You!

This evening we said a sad goodbye and a massive thank you to Bernie, a committee stalwart and coach since 1994 when his daughter, Michelle, joined the club. As a parent Bernie did what many in the club have done before and since, he joined the Committee and became indispensable as a fundraiser, event organiser, former Chair and club bus driver. He qualified as an Assistant Coach focusing on the Learn to Dive Programme and Skills Divers. When Michelle left for university he then took on her divers to include Age Groups in his portfolio.

Albatross is fortunate in, all bar one, of their coaches either being ex divers or parents of ex divers who stay on long after their children have moved beyond juniors with Bernie being no exception to the clubs ethos. In 2007 he took on the administration of the Learn to Dive Programme and became their coaching lead with a generation of Skills, Age Group, Elite and Senior divers starting under his guidance in their diving infancy.

In his latter years he has nurtured the teen squad and ensured these young adults remain engaged in the sport at an age when many athletes drift away. He will remain as a cover coach but he will be greatly missed in his regular sessions. Bernie we wish you well and send you off with a massive THANK YOU.
