Ethan Jones was awarded the Woodley town council cup for excellence in Sport at the 2018 Wokingham Sports Awards.

Ethan Jones was nominated by coach Malcolm Green in recognition of his successful diving year.   Ethans 2018 success began in April at the South East Regional Age Group Qualifiers in Southampton where Ethan won gold on platform and silver medals on both 1m and 3m springboard. Regional success does not necessarily translate to National glory against some of the large professional clubs in the north of England, but Ethan held his nerve and June saw him triumph again in Sheffield at the National Age Group Finals winning gold on 3m and silver on both 1m and platform missing the gold in this event by only 0.65 of a point. Together with Albatross partner Quinn Shaw Ethan also took the gold in the springboard synchronised diving event.

July then saw Ethan travel to Barcelona in his third junior international competition in the past 2 years.  Ethan travelled as part of an Albatross team facing opposition from across Europe. In the outdoor Olympic Pool Ethan secured gold on the platform and silver on the 3m and also scored sufficient points to qualify for next years GB Junior Elite Championships in April 2019.

Next year Ethan will move up an age group, but with his determination he will continue to excel and with this attitude will prove a worthy role model to the club and his school.

Team Albatross train locally at the dry training facility at Rivermead Leisure Centre and on the boards at The Abbey School on week-nights and then travel to Hemel Hempstead, Luton, Southampton and Southend at weekends for the additional spring and high board training required to compete at this highest level. Following in the footsteps of previous Wokingham Sports Award winners from Albatross, Matt Pipe, Malcolm Green, Seb Masterton, Charlotte West and James West, Ethan has had a stunning year of diving achievement.

Well done Ethan
