Reading based Albatross Diving Club held its 26th annual Interclub Competition on Sunday 13th June. This competition attracts many clubs from all over Southern England and Wales. Albatross had a team of 27 divers in the event, competing from the age of 6 up to 16. With several of these divers competing in their first competition.
The first Albatross diver of the day was Lilia Goodchild from our Learn to Dive programme diving in her first competition in the girls group F. She held her nerve to put in a consistent set of dives to win the Gold medal.
The next competition was boys group F with Max King also from our Learn to Dive squad competing in his first competition, showing no nerves he took the silver medal.
In the girls group E 3 divers competed for Albatross Amelia King, Daisy Butler and Daisy Cook. All girls had a good competition with Amelia finishing in 4th place, Daisy Butler in 7th place and Daisy Cook in 8th place.
One of the largest competitions of the day was Girls group D with 21 entries. There were 4 girls diving for Albatross, Isabel Holloway, Molly Lefever, Natalia Ivanov and Olivia Crane. Isabel had an excellent competition scoring high marks on all of her dives to win the bronze medal, the rest of the girls all dived well with Molly in 7th place, Natalia in 9th place and Olivia in 13th place.
In boys group D Albatross had 8 divers competing. They all dived very well, in which, for some was their first competition. James Ridley finished in 6th place, Zac Cooper 7th place, Frankie Smith 8th place, Freddie Barnes 11th place, Hernan Mosqueda-Jolly 15th place, Zac Waight 19th place, Harry Healey 20th place and Aiden Jones 23rd place.
Milly Orgill, Tilly Waight and Lucy Chambers competed in the girls group C. All 3 girls dived consistently scoring well with all of their dives. Milly scoring well on her back dive finishing in 5th place. Tilly doing well with her newly learnt reverse dive took 6th place and Lucy in her first ever diving competition ended in 9th place.
Boys group C saw Alfie Cook and William Frewin diving for Albatross. William had a great competition to finish 2nd averaging 30 points for each of his four dives. Alfie ending his competition in 7th place after a consistent programme of dives.
Freya Nelis, Lottie Gosling and Jasmine McCallum competed in the girl group B. Freya had an extremely good competition scoring almost 40 points with her forward double somersault from the 1 metre board to take the Gold medal. Jsmine having had a good competition took the bronze with team mate Lottie scoring well on her inward somersault off 1 metre to finish in 6th place.
The penultimate event was the boys group B with Henry Middleton diving. He had a really good competition scoring high marks and averaging over 30 points for each of his dives to take the Gold medal.
In the final event of the day the girls group A had Katie Wright diving. After a good competition Katie earned the Bronze medal, just 1 point short of the silver.
At the end of the day Albatross finished 2nd in the team event with Southampton winning the trophy.
